Highlights
In 2010, your DOLLARS made a DIFFERENCE in the lives of those affected by breast cancer!
Below are a few highlights from SSM Health Center programs that were directly funded by grants made possible by the Karen Weidinger Foundation in 2010.
- Over 900 women and their families had their lives touched by the generosity of the KWF in 2010.
- Over 200 attended the 3rd Annual "Let's Talk Woman to Woman" breast cancer awareness event held in September.
- Weight Management & Nutrition Service Consultations served 147 patients in 2010, up 50% from 2009.
- In 2010, approximately 100 wigs and 440 head converings(up from 150 in 2009) were distributed to women in the Cancer Resource Centers at SSM St. Joseph Health Centers
- Yoga & Tai Chi Classes averaged 6-10 participants for each 4-week session.
- Participation in weekly and monthly support groups with a certified group pyschotherapist more than doubled from approximately 150 in 2009 to over 350 in 2010.
- Life After Breast Cancer, a program for breast cancer survivors, meets monthly and enjoys a light dinner. In addition, the meetings are videoconferenced to St. Joseph Hospital West for the convenience of those living in the western part of St. Charles County. Additional programs planned in 2011.
- Provided gas cards to patients to encourage genetic testing at SSM's St. Louis University campus.
- Provided approximately 75 women with post-mastectomy camisoles during their hospital visits in 2010.
New Programs and Services
- Introduce Genetic testing/risk assessment screenings in order to provide educatino and prevention programs to high-risk individual.
- Dr. Aislinn Vaughan, Breast Health Surgeon, agrees to assisting with the KWF Grants Review Committee, ensuring that each and every dollar raised goes directly to the individuals and programs that are in most need.
- The Karen Weidinger Foundation agrees to be a co-sponsor of the 4th Annual "Let's Talk Woman to Woman".
- Growing need for biopsy funding for women under the age of 35.
