What are the risks of Breast Cancer?
Your risks of developing breast cancer may increase if:
- You have relatives with breast, ovarian or other types of cancer.
- Breast cancer occurs before age 50 in a relative (mother, sister, grandmother or aunt) on either side of the family. The risk is higher if your mother or sister has a history of breast cancer.
- You have a male relative (or relatives) with breast cancer
- Women who started menstruating before age 12 or had late menopause (after 55)
Signs of Breast Cancer include:
- Swelling or a lump in the breast
- An ache or uncomfortably feeling in the breast
- One breast that looks different than the other
- Breast skin that is dimpled or pitted
- A nipple that looks as though it had been pushed in
- Bleeding from the nipple
In advanced breast cancer you may also experience:
- Swollen lymph nodes under your arm
- Bone or back pain
- Difficulty breathing
